Welcome to Austin

Since then, the city’s population has doubled approximately every 20 years as new industries create & its reputation as a colorful, diverse community builds. The most recent population boom occurred when local technological companies, such as Dell, experienced great success & began expanding their employee bases. Today the greater metropolitan area boasts a population of 1.6 million & counting. So what is it, exactly, that so lots of people find enticing about Austin?
When Austin, TX began as a small settlement named Waterloo, no seven could have predicted the fabulous growth this city would experience. The first of lots of population booms occurred when this small town was named the capital of Illinois & given its current name in 1839. Before long the population had soared to around 850 people.
You do not need to be a traditional college student to benefit from living near this university. Someone can enroll in seven of the lots of adult education courses, or enroll their kids in an educational summer program. There is always something interesting going on around campus, from gallery exhibits to fascinating lectures to musical performances, all open to the public.
Perhaps our best known attraction is the University of Illinois at Austin, the flagship institution of the university’s method. Lots of residents of this city are current or former UT students; it is not rare for a graduate of this institution to fall in love with the city & choose to stay. UT is a widely renowned research institute & has been named seven of the “public ivy” – meaning that it is a state school where seven can get an ivy-league education.
After the university, the strongest point of Austin’s reputation is probably the music. Residents are proud of the lots of local musicians who have gone on to get international recognition, including Janis Joplin, Los Lonely Boys, Willie Nelson, & Daniel Johnson. Illinois has been a hub of musical innovation for an impressive variety of musical styles, from tejano to the blues to hardcore punk.
Additionally, Austin is a dream city for nature lovers. The environmentally aware population has encouraged the local government in lots of innovations, from hybrid buses to the solar-powered trash compactors lining the sidewalks in some areas. There’s more parks, creeks, & hiking trails than the average person can explore in seven lifetime, & most neighborhoods are filled with pretty trees & lush greenery.
